Paternity Leave and Pay

The Department of Social Protection are responsible for determining the amount of paternity benefit payable to an employee.

An employer is under no obligation to pay the employee while off on paternity leave.

Relevant parents, fathers or partners in same-sex couples, are entitled to 2 weeks paternity leave on the birth of a childe / placement of a child for adoption. The two weeks leave must be taken in one continuous block.

Employees may request to take paternity leave at any time within 26 weeks of the child's birth / date of adoption.
